I'm inclined to think it would be cheaper to replace the laptop; either with a new one. or a decent, guaranteed used one?

Are you certain the graphics card has died?

And what make and model laptop do you have?

I am sure it has died all colours that we humans can see go rapidly across the screen while lines of red blue and yellow pixels go the other way. it as an acer aspire e 17 model( e5-772g-74wy) I can do things like web surfing because I swapped it to the pathetic intergrated cpu graphics

First of all, have you tried an external monitor to verify the same results?

Second, check the system and GPU temperatures using the BIOS readings or a utility like CPUID/HW Monitor. Overheating can cause strange things to happen.
