What can you do about it: Nothing expect contact Acer and if you can convince them that you are the legitimate owner of the laptop they may be able to do something for you.

Passwords do not just appear out of nowhere and it has nothing to do with Windows.

"Passwords do not just appear out of nowhere and it has nothing to do with Windows"

Exactly right, I was gonna say something similar.

"i wanted to change my operating system from Win xp to windows 8"

If you have an older laptop running XP, it's probably not a good candidate for Win8. Do you have at least 2GB RAM? 4GB would give much better performance.

Very true, and also just as important are the device drivers. If Acer do not have Windows 8 drivers for your model you can't run Windows 8 on it.

One other comment. A recovery disk would not help in this case. As StuartS indicated, this issue has nothing to do with Windows.

Who put the password on the laptop?

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.
