Your motherboard needs to support ddr3. Can't say without knowing what your system specs are. Post back with the specs.

If in fact, you have DDR then you can't use DDR2 or DDR3.

Go to crucial.com and use their online scan tool to determine what type and how much RAM your system can use.

Your Dimension 2400 has 2 memory slots & accepts up to 1GB per slot of either DDR333 (PC2700) or DDR400 (PC3200). Considering the cost of DDR these days, I'd keep the 256MB installed & add a 1GB to bring the total to 1.25GB. Newegg has 1GB sticks for about $30.
