I dropped one of those external hard drives

November 7, 2010 at 15:57:17
Specs: Windows 7
I can open most of the files on it except for one folder. When i try to open it it will ask me to format the disk. Is there a way to get those files back or should i just be happy to have the other ones? It is not making any weird noises.

It is highly likely the drive is damaged and will have to be replaced. Your first priority now is to back up all of your important files ASAP. You may not have much time.

Yes, backup you data while you have the chance. The slowness could be down to damage to the head seek mechanism which will fail eventually.

You could try backing up the data and reformatting the disk and see if that improves matters but I wouldn't hold out much hope. Hard disks do no take kindly to being dropped.
