Specs: Windows 7
My laptop will not boot up. I closed the cover and let it shut itself down. Now all I get is a black screen. the battery was at 97% when it shut down. How do I get it started?

✔ Best Answer
Leave it closed for at least 10 minutes. If, when you open the top, it doesn't come on, hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds and then try to restart the machine.

If that fails, remover all power, including the battery and power cord. Wait a few seconds and reconnect and try again.

Computers can sometimes get themselves stuck in an endless loop and the only way to get out of it is to remove all power. With a desktop that is relatively simple. With a laptop you have the battery to consider as well.

"Select Best Answer" - the #2 answer was the one that worked - at least temporarily. It turns out the motherboard is fried!
