✔ Best Answer
Perform a "factory default recovery". Your computer instructions should tell you how to do that, or visit the manufacturer's website for instructions.

You understand what "format" means, right? The hard drive will be wiped clean & all data will be lost. You will then need to reinstall Windows, the device drivers, run Windows Update, then reinstall all your programs.

BTW, why do you want to format?

You don't need a password to format. Just boot off the Windows disc & follow the instructions. Do you have an OEM system (Acer, Dell, HP, etc)? If you do, did you ever create the recovery disc set? What's the make/model of your system?

The short answer:
"HP Recovery Manager can be accessd from the Start Menu, or by tapping F11 key as soon as you power on the laptop. Recovery Manager is used to reinstall back to factory specs_also used to make a Recovery Disk set."

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
