You have not supplied enough information.
What model is it? It's usually on a label on the bottom of the laptop.
Running the Recovery procedure is a last resort. Many problems can be fixed without you having to do that.
What is/are your problem(s) that made you think you needed to try a Recovery procedure?
Supply as much detail as you can.
Are you try to boot the computer using a HP supplied Recovery or Restore CD,
or a regular full version Windows CD,
or are you trying to use a built in HP supplied Recovery choice you may see while booting?
(That often doesn't work when there is a problem with the data on the hard drive.)
