Well we'll deal with the basics first.
Is yours a laptop or desktop system?
do you have internal or external speakers?
Are the speakers powered or unpowered?
Are they plugged into the audio output jack?
Do you have an onboard soundcard or a PCI soundcard.
Have you looked in devicemanager to check for problems with audio devices?
Did sound ever work on this system?

Honestly you gave no useful information on which to base a diagnosis.

Hi, I, too have a sound issue, and really appreciate the help that people are able to offer here. I have a desktop computer, with Windows Vista and it's about a year old computer. Everything was fine with the sound until I brought up winamp. Not only could I hear no sound, but even when I push "play", it does nothing. When I go to Control Panel to check out the sound card, and try to test it, it simply gives me a popup saying, "Failed to Play Sound". It's very strange, because yesterday everything was fine. Today, not only can I not hear music out of my external speakers (on Youtube, or Winamp, or Media Player, etc), but it won't even start the music when I hit the play buttons. In Media Player, I can hit play a hundred times, and it doesn't even start - visually or audio-wise. Any ideas?
