I can play cd's, but not dvd's. HELP!!

Specs: Windows XP
Hi, my computer is a VPR Matrix and up to today plays cd's, dvd's fine. Now I can play cd's, but when I load up a dvd all I can do is go under WMP and watch the titles. If I go under my computer and click on the drive it says no disk. I am running windows xp. The only thing that has changed is I downloaded a codec AC3 filter and had to change a setting for my ipod through the usb manager. Does anyone know what the problem is?

...please try to boot from a bootable dvd...if it boots, the DVD-ROM is OK, and it`s a Windows XP Problem...

...otherwise, it`s seems to be your laser is dead...

I tried 3 different movies, ones that worked fine before. In wmp I can view the title screens and watch the previews but just can't watch the movie itself. So it seems I can get some video out of there.

well I uninstalled the codec and changed the ipod setting and it worked!! Now to find out which one it was, I had to change the ipod setting to use as disk, maybe that was it?, or it was the codec. Either way thank you so much, don't know why I didnt think to do that. Thanks again!!!
