Specs: Vista Ultimate x64, open for suggestions
hello,
I have an Antec Performance Plus 1080 AMG ATX server case. I going to remove all Tyan Thunder components I built this machine back in 02/03 and I want to upgrade to something new. I was a tech till getting hurt on the job and been out of it since then. I am also a photographer and do very heavy photo editing for myself and other pro photographers. I found this setup Asus M4A78T-E Motherboard and AMD Phenom II 1090T Black Edition Six Core CPU Bundle from TigerDirect for $299 what do you think? Do you have better solution for my needs. The case has a 500 watt ps installed with 10 bay if needed. I have ide, lvd scsi and card, and sata drives now. Do you have a better solution for them as well.
Thank you for your help and look forward to hearing from you.

Steven

The 1090T is pretty good cost per cpu deal. Not the best but cheap for what is it.

Depends on the OS. If you have CS or other high end apps you'd need a supported video card to help out.

No substitute for ram either. Even though many apps still have a 2 G limit you may have to look for ways around that. Even some high end adobe stuff has to be messed with. A 24Mpixel camera in raw mode can take some very large files.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Your power supply probably doesn't have the required connectors or for matter the required amount of Amps on the +12V rail.

I don't think Tiger Direct is the best online vendor to deal with. If the processor is a retail box with Heatsink/fan included then that is a deal. I personally think the six core demands a premium price. I just built a rig for my son using a Phenom II x4 3.4.

Don't forget you will need RAM.

There are better selections for boards with integrated graphics. For instance this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...

Look at newegg.com.

Some of what you found may be good stuff but if you have been out of the loop for 2 years you should really be asking for help with the selections here.

The power supply must be a good brand and at least 550W or more, depending on the graphics card you select.

As I stated above. come up with a budget for everything but the case and monitor and we will help you select a balanced system.

The motherboard & CPU I linked above are a good start. Your current rig is old. You may be surprised at what performance you can get. The integrated graphics on the board I linked is the best integrated currently offered. The chip set is the best AMD has at the moment.

I assume you are in the USA if you use Tigerdirect. I can choose a power supply and RAM.

What OS are you planning on running? 32 bit OSes are limited to 4GB of RAM and all that isn't usable.

I suggest you don't run off on a buying spree. After a list is compiled you can start a new thread asking for an evaluation of the hardware.

Below is a link to a PSU that will run about anything you build. Corsair is top shelf.
