Specs: vista 32 bit, n/a
Hi, I have done lots of research on google and haven't found a solution yet.
1- I swapped out the ram...no display
2- I removed the hard drive ....no message or display
3- I tried removing the battery, unplugged the adapter, held the power switch on for 40 seconds. Then plugged in the adapter....still no post or display.
4- I also powered up the laptop, holding the Fn button and tapping the f8 key to see if the monitor would be adjusted...still no display.

I was just using the laptop and sending an e-mail when the screen went dead. All the lights are on above the keyboard and the fan turns on.

I also tried tapping f2, f8, etc and still no display whatsoever.
Would there not be at least a post with the HP logo or even just saying that there is no OS or HD present?

If anyone has any ideas I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks
I connected another monitor and there also was NO dislpay.

Did u happen to check temperature before it died?
Hp dv series are known for GPU failure. The problem is bad cooler and using heat pad for GPU instead of good thermal paste.
If it serious u will need to reflow the GPU solder with a heat gun. U will also need a good thermal paste and old copper coin or a small piece of pure copper with a flat surface. The copper will fill the gap after removing the thermal pad from GPU.

Hi Kuwese, thanks for the reply. I'm not too handy with a soldering iron...my skills are more in software, etc. I'll see if I can find a confident person to try it. I didn't notice it heating up, as I mostly used it on housecalls and jobsites.

U have the experience it is easy.
I fixed my first laptop (hp tx1000) with similar issue last year. It was pain in the ass because i started with the hair dryer then after few weeks of searching i fixed it.
