HP LaserJet 2300DN Firmware update failed

June 5, 2014 at 14:22:49
Specs: Windows 8.1
Hi all,

after I loaded a new firmware to my printer it still keeps asking me to install the new firmware. There is nothing else I can do with the printer. I have tried to install via network and via USB.
Is there a way to replace parts of the hardware (Bios ?) at low cost or do I have to trash the printer?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Check to see if HP has some method of reverting the firmware update or overwritting it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi Derek,

thank you for your quick answer. I can´t find any of those tools that you mentioned. I was even unable to find the original or any previous firmware for my printer.

I am anyhow not sure if I can still connect to the printer. I tried over FTP which failed but when I copy the .rfu file to the printer via command line I get a confirmation that it has been copied.

Did you get the firmware from HP. Let me have the link if you've got one please.

Thanks. Strange that there are three which look identical.

If the firmware update failed, which seems to be the case, the only solution I know would be to replace the chip in the printer. I would be inclined to email HP (help tab at top right). They might have a solution, such as an undo. Keep an eye on here too for any other ideas.

Dear Derek,

the drivers are indeed all the same just packed for different operating systems.

Thank you for the hint to get in touch with HP. I have just tried but they won´t let me post anything without having a vaild guarantee contract and mine must be expired as I bought this printer used about five years ago..

Would you probably know about further steps of repairing the hardware? I guess I would need a new formatter board ? How difficult would it be to get it installed as I am amateur regarding hardware issues.

Probably it also helps if I post some more details of my issue here:

When I start the printer the display will show the following:

"Downld file now" - download file now
"Resend RFU upgrd" - resend rfu upgrade

Before that error, I have followed the instructions in the readme file attached to the new firmware and sent the "copy /b lj2300fw_04.050.2.rfu \\i7\hplaserj" command to the printer over the network which got confirmed as "one file(s) copied"

The printer does not respond to Windows nor MacOS at all and is shown as offline in Windows.

When I try to reload the firmware it just does nothing but I still get the confirmation "one file(s) copied"

If anyone had any further ideas I would be very greatful.

Thank you in advance.

Regards

Sorry, I've never run into this issue on a printer. I doubt you would able to get hardware replacements for it. Pity HP are so bloody minded, most suppliers will try to help with a problematical firmware update.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
