HP laserjet 1300 PCL XL error Kernel illegal

Specs: Windows XP
Printer installed OK on newish PC (was working fine before), prints test page, but gives a PCL XL error KERNEL illegal tag on asking it to print any document

Can you help?

With the computer turned off I would disconnect the printer. Then I would restart the computer and remove all the HP software. I would download the latest drivers from here;

Then turn the computer off, reconnect the printer and start the computer, and use the found new hardware installation to install the drivers you downloaded from HP. HTH

Thanks for the advice! The error stopped when I simply reinstalled the printer; but I will keep your advice in case it happens again.
