Solved HP laptop fails all Hard Drive Short Test (DST)

Specs: Linux
If the laptop is suffering from this issue and won't boot up, how do you recover the data from it? Bear in mind, I'm a non-IT idiot.

Take the HDD out of the laptop, put it in a USB adapter or dock, then see if the contents are readable/retrievable from another computer. However, if the drive fails all diagnostics tests, it's unlikely you'll be able to retrieve the data unless you take it to a recovery specialist.

Tried the Lazesoft and no joy, unfortunately. Looks like I get to pay someone to recover my data, dangit.
