Specs: Windows XP home, amdx64 2.4ghz
just installed this hp dvd/cd writer 1270t sata burner to my new system build using windows xp
home edition, and wanted to know if it is normal for this dvd drive to constantly activate the Hard Drive LED light on my computer case, I also am using a Seagate sata 7200 120gig hard drive as well, it also came with nero 9 essentials, but i am not an nero fan, could you recommend a well tested burner software to burn music cd's, I purchased 123 copy dvd gold to handle my dvd burning apps. Do I have some configuration changes I could make so that the dvd burner only accesses the drive when I am using it, the led blinking all the time has my a bit confused, if its normal or is the dvd drive have it's own problem? any insight will be appreciated. thanks Rick...

It's not out of the ordinary for your harddrive led to flash often depending on what you have running in the background. As these programs run, they are on the drive after all, they are accessing the harddrive. If you're not using the DVD drive then I doubt it is accessing your harddrive.

In Part to your reply, I have tried going into hardware device manager and opened the tree to were the hp dvd/cd ram drive is located and did a disable on the drive and the constant blinking led went away, it still work as normal for hard drive activity, was wondering if an sata dvd/cd writer drive has a problem, i did notice that their is a red led light visable when you look into the inside of the dvd drive bay, I just don't know if this thing is stuck on all the time, or is suppost to be on, meaning the red led lens, this is also a LightScribe burner as well, so maybe this has something to do with it.
I checked HP website for support for a driver update, but that was just about impossible to find, still looking for a driver update, I am running WindowsXP Home and it installed ok, it loaded the driver automatically, I am still looking and trying to learn more about it, thank you for your reply, any more help will be appriciated. thanks.

It is of no surprise that your new DVD HP1270t does funny things. Its brand new and in the BETA stage of consumer use. You will have to wait and even call HP to get them to throw a patch up, or a Firmware patch upgrade to mesh with software and system issues. Takes up to a year to have a firmware upgrade unless your buy a high end burning program to which those 3rd parties have worked around bugs the big boys don't figure out until the angry emails start flying in.
