Solved how to set dvd region code back to 0

June 23, 2011 at 10:16:38
Specs: Windows 7
I have an HP p6214Y with quad processor 8G mem and running Windows 7. It has one DVD/CD RW Drive factory installed. I put in a Movie DVD and was given a message that the Drive Codec was "0", and the Movie was "1", and prompted a change, warning that I could only change 5 times. Assuming (incorrectly) I would have 4 chances left to change it back, I proceeded to change it to "1". The Movie ran fine after that, but now I cannot use the drive to read video files I had previously recorded or received from friends. Going in to the Device Manager it only lets me change to a code greater than "0". How can I get this drive set back to "0" so I can read the many files I have now?

It was not designed to run region 0. Who ever did it knows some program to set it to that region.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

It came from the HP factory set to "0". It was never changed (didn't have the need) until I ran the movie which requested I change it to "1". It has always worked fine for all my program installs, and to burn video from my camera..... but not now that it's been changed to "1". HELP !

If I'm not mistaken, the region code of 1 is for the US and Canada. The region should only apply to commercial dvd's. Not being able to view homemade vids is another problem.

Yes, "1" is the U.S. code, and it was a commercial (Warner Bros) movie DVD that I ran. So, are you saying this should only effect "commercial" movie DVDs? The videos clips were burned when the drive was set to "0", would this not effect the playback on the drive now set to "1"? If it doesn't, than I may have a coincidentally occurring problem :-(
