how to restore a wiped hard drive

Compaq / Presario cq61 notebook pc

Specs: Windows 7
HP wiped my hard disc clean when they had my laptop for repair to a speaker problem( under warranty). Now they refuse to help me restore all the information.
Is there any way I can get this back - they even wiped Microsoft Office Standard and despite reloading it, outlook will not work correctly now

If they reformatted the drive, and it sounds like they did, chances are slim to none of retrieving the data. I'm sure you can google for solutions for outlook. Do you have to have Outlook or can you use Windows Live Mail.

Rule number one...if you ever send your PC back to the manufacturer to fix something, always save all your files etc before sending it out. They should have told you that, because they just take the quickest and easiest route, reformat and put the PC back to the way it was when you bought it. It's a lesson learned.

The weird thing about that is that 99% of the new HP's have a hidden partition and some allow a non-destructive repair of the operating system from the partition. That would have saved all your files and documents, etc.

Recuva might find your documents and pics to recover, it is free and try it NOW before you load on too much stuff on your laptop....the more you add, the less chance of recovery. Good Luck

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers

Depending on HOW the drive was wiped you MIGHT be able to restore it by using a utility called testdisk. I recommend you try recuva first. Save recovered files to external media of some sort and then try testdisk. Be sure to read all the tutorials for best results. Get testdisk at the link below.
