" I think the hard drive is just dead but I plan to try more options"
Can you boot into the Bios?
If you can, does the hard drive show up?

Can you boot into Safe mode?

Your drive is toast. Unless there is data on there you are trying to recover, time to toss it in the garbage.

If the heads are damaged (which is usually the case when the drive is dropped) or the platter is scratched then the chances of recovering anything is very small.

If the data was valuable then you would need to perform a head transplant, this isn't rocket science but requires a very steady hand, and the correct donor heads/pcb.

Obviously this no longer helps you as you have thrown them away but just for future reference, it is possible to get your drives running enough to copy your data off, just requires time and patients.
