my compaq mini 110 netbook has the right side of the screen that is lit but has no desktop or other image (au optronics b101awo3 v.1 h/w: 5a f/w:1 is monitor part #) . A monitor hooked up through VGA out was working fine) I called to buy a replacement screen but the tech there feels that the issue is the LCD inverter. he says there are 2 bulbs in some units. I've got the screen out but still havent figured how to remove the inverter which i was told is some place under the keyboard. what do you think?
"the screen that is lit but has no desktop or other image" If the screen is lit, then it's not an inverter issue. The inverter is what powers the light. No image would be something else such as a bad cable from the MB to the screen or bad video chip.
Thanks thx,
if the inverter is working then the screen is lit white right? If when you say video chip you mean GPU or graphics card then when I hooked the computer to an outside monitor i should have gotten the same half blank image right?
Yes, if the inverter is working, then the screen will be lit. Most laptops do not have graphic cards, the video chip is soldered on the motherboard. If you connect an external monitor to the laptop and the display works, then it's a good chance the cable that connects between the motherboard and screen is either damaged or has come loose or the screen itself is damaged.
