Typing in all caps is shouting, Please stop.

How is the drive showing in Disk Management?

You can try a faster recovery tool called recuva. Link below.

Or if the file system is corrupted but the drive is still showing you can try to reconstruct the partition with testdisk. Be sure to read all instructions prior to using. Link below.

I tried Recurva on a 500 GB External drive. 10 DAYS to just scan the drive. I have lots of small files. Unless you are lucky recovery is a slow process.

In a small business like ours downtime is fatal, so Fields stepped up, and got us back up in a small amount of time. They were professional and efficient.

There might be some bad sector of your disk since 500Gb disk won't take much time for software to finish searching files.

Different program has different method searching lost files. You need to try more tools and here are some options

The most common reason for an external hard drive to become corrupted is the improper removal of the drive. If the drive is removed before all writing to that drive has completed the file system will probably get corrupted. Testdisk is one tool that works to reconstruct the file system. There may be others.

You are probably correct. There are a few different recovery programs linked below.

PC Inspector (freeware)
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinsp...
Zero assumption Recovery
http://www.z-a-recovery.com
The demo is limited
It will only recover 'up to' four folders per run
But you can make multiple runs
not free
GetDataBack
