How in the world do I make this printer compatible with my 64bit Windows 7 computer?

1st you install the driver, then you connect the printer. If no Win7 64-bit drivers are available, try the Vista 64 drivers.

If you're in the US, Vista 64 bit drivers here:

The MF4100 series device must be plugged into a USB port it can work properly with when you initially have installed it's software, otherwise it may not be detected or install correctly.

The MF4100 series device must be plugged into a USB port it can work properly with when you use it after it has been installed correctly.

USB devices may not work correctly when they're connected to certain USB ports, e.g. ports in a hub or on the front of a desktop case.
