How to listen audio from Acer-Aspire 5738 speakers?

Acer / Aspire 5738-6969
September 9, 2014 at 15:21:44
Specs: Windows 7, SP1, 4 GB
I have hooked up 27" AOC brand external monitor to my 15" laptop. How can I watch video signals on this monitor and listen to audio signals from built in speakers of Aspire 5738? The external monitor is not equipped with speakers.
I may use a DVD or VCD (Video Compact Disc) or watch any program online.

What happens when you try to listen to the audio? Does it not play?

Adding an external monitor should not affect the audio from your laptop.

Jennifer SUMN,

The laptop speakers don't play. I tried to increase the volume from speaker icon at the bottom left in the task bar. NO SOUND. Also there are Vol.+ and Vol.- push buttons above the keyboard on this laptop. I tried to increase volume using them but NO SOUND.

I would like to mention that I contacted Tech Support of AOC monitor. Their response was to configure the sound card and choose HDMI option. But this laptop has TWO SOUND PROCESSORS instead (Device Manager): 1. Intel and 2. Realtek. Intel sound processor is factory default.

I am wondering whether these sound processors can be configured or is there any way something similar to configure in order to make these built in speakers work.

Sorry if I'm having a dozy moment but are you saying that the laptop speakers stop working when you plug in the monitor, or have you a sound fault with your laptop?

Derek,

If you are right. I wouldn't have posted the question. Do you think something else needs to be done or there is some other problem? I AM GETTING HD VIDEO ON AOC MONITOR.

Pls. Read my reply to Jennifer SUMN at #3.

Derek,

The irony is that speakers stop working when AOC monitor is plugged in. But they work good when I play audio CD or watch YouTube video.

Well, you live and learn - I'd didn't realise there was ever a situation where plugging in a monitor killed the audio (or switched it to the monitor speakers, if any).

See if anything here helps:

I know it's about a TV rather than a monitor but there might be some common factor.

That cost money and is why folk come here in order to try to fix things themselves. You could say that about any computer problem.

Anyhow, as far as I can tell the problem is now solved.
