What is it you're trying to do, create a dual boot with Win7 already installed on the primary partition? If you have a SATA HDD, make sure to create a new XP disc with the SATA/RAID drivers slipstreamed into it.

It is possible to install most of XP on a logical drive but boot files have to be on a primary one. So if you already have Windows installed on a primary partition, just choose the logical drive as the target when installing XP.

Be aware that if the primary OS is Vista or Windows 7 this will mess up the boot process and you will need to do a repair install. You may then need to use something like EasyBCD to make the XP installation available.
