Did you add in a PCI card for 1394 or are you using 1394 that is integrated into the motherboard?

Either way you need to install drivers. If you bought a card it should have come with a CD.

I added a pci card for the 1394. I called the people i got it from and they said no driver is required. I took out the card again and rebooted, followed by reinstalling it and booting again and i have no luck. Thoughts?

thanks

Have you looked in Device Manager to see if the card is installed?

You may still need to install software in order to connect the camera to the card.

After rereading your original post I think you may have not followed the installation process correctly.

First verify if the firewire card in working properly in Device Manager. If so, uninstall any sofware you installed and reboot. Then try installing again, taking care to connect the camera when prompted to do so.

So i checked and it said something was not right. I took card out and put it back in again. Went to the device manager and it now says everything is working fine. Guess the only question is how do i get the program and software to run? I cant find it anywhere? thanks again

Hey, i never installed any software. When i connect the camera nothing happens whether the camera is turned on or off. When you say set to view files what do you mean? I just go to my cpu and check to see if it shows the connected camera but there is nothing there. Is there somewhere else i should be looking?

Thanks

I have no experience with cameras that use firewire.

That said, I do use USB digital cameras. In order for the camera to show in Computer I must set the on/off switch to access the storage in the camera. The switch is a 3 position switch. The center is the Off position. One way On is to take photos, the other way is to view stored files. I assume your camera must have something similar.

Ya, mine of course is a video camera so it has record-off-play. I did some reading and it says it has to be in playback mode to work. I found a guide as to what you should see, but it still isnt working.

Are you using a cable that came with the camera?

Post the model of the camera.

My cables are what came with the pci card i got which if you go to mycablemart.com and type in item be-160501 in the search box it will show you what i am using and my video card is a ASUS EAH4670 1G DDR3 with HDMI. The Video Camera is a JVC GR-d850U. When i called the sites support they told me that they figured it was a compatibility problem with my cpu and the pci card.

Well, if there is an issue with the PCI card it will show in Device Manager. Look there.

Are you setting the camera to play and then importing the file in the software.

The software may need to recognize the camera. Burning and imaging software must know the model of the burner so it stands to reason the camera needs to be recognized.

You could try getting further help at the link below.
