How to force VGA output in bios?

Specs: Windows XP
Hello. My laptop's screen is broken, so I've been using it hooked up to an external monitor.

However, I'd like to reinstall XP but I can't see what I'm doing because of the broken laptop display. I've tried the internal/external display toggle button, but that only seems to work from within Windows.

So any tips?

Why do you need to reinstall XP?

My computer has developed quite a few "quirks" since I last installed XP. Error messages and stuff. I know they're probably not virus-related (I'm very careful when it comes to PC security), but I'd prefer to start fresh anyway since (in my experience) the repair install function hardly ever works. Besides, I think a repair install would also require me to see what was happening during boot up.

It would be a feature of the computer. Most laptops are made to have a built in screen.
