To isolate the problem, try/borrow an USB mouse & test.

Re #2
"Tried that it didn't work"

Unsure what you mean by "didn't work". Do you mean that an external mouse did the same thing as the touchpad, or you couldn't make it do anything at all, or something else?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

how to fix touch pad on Packard bell laptop

Try adjustments in control panel / mouse icon.
If that doesn't work Right click on Computer / My computer choose Properties Hardware tab at the top device manager.
Right click on the mouse choose uninstall and reboot the computer.

This will reinstall the device drivers for the mouse.

Trying yet another mouse would be worthwhile because from your first try this seems to point to something more global which affects both mouse and touchpad.

#6 would be worth a try too. If that fails go back to Device Manager and let us know if there are any errors showing there, particularly under the headings "Keyboards" and "Mice and other pointing Devices" - errors usually show as yellow exclamation marks.

Did this fault just suddenly arise out of the blue or was it after you did something?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Some laptops have a separate button ( very small ) to turn the touch pad off/on.

Also F9 or FN + F9 can do the same, maybe it was one of these.
