how to disable coffee-spilled laptop keyboard

March 14, 2010 at 15:35:08
Specs: Windows Vista
I recently spilled a cup of tea on my laptop computer and the keys have gone crazy. It's just about under control at the minute but the second i hit a key 10 different key will be locked on and it takes me a few minutes to stop it. I would like to disable the keyboard to prevent the craziness starting again if i accidently hit a key on the keyboard. Device manager does not give a disable option for keyboards but it does give an uninstall option. Could i unistall the keyboard and maybe reinstall it at a later date? Is there another way to disable the keyboard? Please help

The keyboard is quite easy to take out if you want to try and clean it up.

usually 2 clips at the number side and a small ribbon cable at the spacebar end
all you will need is a very small screwdriver or tweezers
just do a google for your model and find the disassembly instructions.

Thanks Madmax. I've already taken most of the keys off to try and fix it but i had no luck. my external keyboard is working great but i do get some very random letters popping up very often. I'll have a look now and try to take out the keyboard and see if that helps.
