Solved How to choose a best answer? None was helpful. Rephrase?

Specs: Windows 10
It's a simple thing, I know, but I can't say "best answer" when the answers, all of which meant to be helpful, did not work? Likewise, I can't "categorize" my question since none of the listed choices applies. So I'm going to choose one that is probably inaccurate.

Did you replace the usb multimedia board? If not then how can you say 'none of the answers helped?

If you did then please explain how you replaced it, did you buy the correct board and was it described as 'tested and working'?

You need to put the time and effort into trying all suggestions as we can only guide you and not do ot for you, though some of us probably would if we were close enough!

You're very kind and helpful and I appreciate the suggestions. I did follow up on the various suggestions short of replacing the media board, which would be beyond my capability and would be expensive.

On an intuition, I transferred my material from a 2.0 USB to a new 3.0 USB and it works fine. I still do not understand why I was able to use the 2.0 for such an extended time.

I apologize if I have given the impression that I have disregarded your help and that of others. This is the first time I have used any sort of online help and I deeply appreciate the suggestions.

If I read your solution correctly, you're saying you repaced a usb 2 storage device with usb 3 device; presumably this device was a flash drive (usb stick)?

If so then such devices can and do fail...., which is why one does not use them for serious and long term storage. Rather consider them as devices used to carry data about, knowing it is also safe, secure, duplicated on more reliable media.
