How to change Acer Aspire laptop Startup Splash Picture?

June 14, 2015 at 17:38:27
Specs: Windows 8.1
How can I change the startup splash logo/picture when booting Windows 8.1? I have an Acer Aspire E-15 (E5-571-5552).
When I press the Power button, Acer's logo with a self serving set of words appears on an otherwise black screen. After a while, the screen goes blank for a good while then the "lock" screen appears. I am interested in changing the very first image.
Thanks!

It's built into BIOS which starts before Windows loads. To get into BIOS you press F2 key immediately after you power up. There might be an option to disable the splash screen there. There is no way to change it though.
[BIOS is just a menu of options which generally uses the keyboard].

EDIT:
Just to add that the splash itself will hardly add more than a second of time to overall bootup. Activity is continuing whilst it is on the screen.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Changing or removing the OEM splash screen would mean modifying the BIOS with some sort of 3rd party program. Very risky business. If done improperly, you could brick your motherboard.

You would need to know the true manufacturer of the board (Acer doesn't make boards), the model number, the board revision, the BIOS string info, etc. Then using that info, you'd have to do a search to see if someone created a modded BIOS specifically to work with that board. Even if you were to successfully make the change, the new BIOS ID could possibly make your OEM version of Windows unusable because it would no longer recognize the motherboard.

All that just because you don't like a screen that only appears at startup for a few seconds? Have you tried pressing Tab or Esc to see if it closes the Acer splash screen & displays the BIOS boot screen instead?

Thanks, Derek, but I did try that. This machine has UEFI, (InsydeH2O Setup Utility, v 1.16) that doesn't give that choice. Doesn't offer the NumLock option, either. (Can set it elsewhere/elsehow, though.)

And, thanks, riider, you say what I thought, No buttons change/remove the image, and it is on just about 10 seconds, with the W8 rotating dots displayed.
Appreciate the direct link, too! Lots of information there, and bricking the mb is a real possibility. I haven't found any reference to updating the UEFI/Bios on this machine, either.

Changing the images for the "Lock Screen" and the Desktop were fairly straightforward, however.

As I said, although the splash is visibile for 10 seconds loading is still going on. If you were able to remove it I doubt you would notice any difference in the boot time.

There's almost always an option to disable the manufacturer's logo. Check bios setup again or consult the manual. It may say something like 'show diagnostic screen' or 'show posting screen'.

Does this picture resemble what you are talking about? If so it is known as Acer logo BIOS boot screen.

Thanks, Derek: Not trying to affect boot time; just personalizing and removing brand reminder.

DAVEINCAPS: No such options in the UEFI/Bios setup. Minimal manual doesn't address any of the function keys, or how to update the UEFI/Bios at all.

XpUser: That's the picture! From the link that riider provided above, it's probably embedded in the bios chip and not 'easily' changeable. I'm not a coder.

There is no visible option for updating the UEFI/Bios (as on many of the other brands). Driver Booster2 found (and updated) a lot of old drivers.

I'm sure acer doesn't want it's logo removed, and has made it difficult.

As you can see HERE all companies beside Acer are protective of their product. This is what logo is all about. Curiously Why is it bothering you so much?

Re #9

That's a Windows feature. As said, these splash screens are part of BIOS (effectively hardware) which loads before Windows, including the boot loader.

My ASUS motherboard, about 5 years old, came with a program
on the driver CD to change the logo displayed during POST, called
"ASUS MyLogo3". I've never tried to use it, but I may get around to
it before I acquire a new motherboard.... The motherboard manual
says the new logo can be a GIF, JPG, or BMP, and is installed by
flashing the BIOS.

Yeah I remember you could do that with some of the old--286, 386--IBM desktops.
