How to block the use of the format HDD option

February 20, 2011 at 12:19:12
Specs: Windows 7
My pc is used by a whole household in which certain members (kids) fiddle about with everything, its has a second HDD installed (2TB) which has family photos & videos that need to be kept.
Is there anyway to delete or block the use of the format button when you right click on the HDD in the my computer section?

Yea, don't let them near your computer. Seriously, if you create user profiles that require a login you can restrict most anything you want.

Go to Control Panel> User Accounts.

All users ought to be standard users (in xp limited users.) Only a single administrator account ought to be allowed. That admin account only needs to be used as "run as" and not used normally.

If everyone is on as the lowest user then these types of commands can't be normally run.

Don't all use one profile. That is not a good idea. If nothing else, your kids homework won't be mixed in with all the other stuff.
