Did the computer come with restore disk/s or do you have the operating system disk?
If no then you need to create the restore disk. Install the SSD and reinstall your operating system and programs to it.

Install the OS from scratch on the SSD. If possible, install using a retail Windows disc, not a recovery disc, that way you won't get stuck with the pre-bundled bloatware/crapware. Repartition & refomat the old HDD & use it for storage.

When using a second drive or partition for storage, I move Documents and other storage folders to the storage drive but put back a short cut where the it originally was so any program that is looking for it in the usual place will find it and save it correctly. Then put another on your desktop for you to be able to open it easier, the short cuts do not use any significant space so you will not be wasting your SSD space.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
