XP should run very well with those specs. is it a fresh install or bogged down by years of crapware?

Fresh install from a OEM disc but not from Dell.
this is a disk from 2012 i beleave i'll try to get you a version number

What's slow about it? Have you installed SP3 & all the other Windows Updates? You're not using IE for your browser, are you? The last version supported by XP is IE8 - it's a security risk plus many sites no longer support it. It's still necessary for Windows Update though. Try an alternative browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc) IF you can find one that's still supported. Maybe IceDragron?

There are also a ton of tweaks that can be made to lighten the load & you should be running a lightweight AV program, once again, IF you can find one that's still supported. That's the problem with running XP in 2017. Many software creators have abandoned it.

i am running Firefox have all the updates. i know i used to have a sheet with all the tweaks on it but it must have gotten thrown away.Also i have it set to update automatically for windows update and security update too
