"I have registered the printer to the secondhand laptop but the laptop will not send data to the printer."

Not certain what you mean by that but I'm suspecting that you don't have the drivers for the printer installed on the "secondhand laptop".

I suggest giving this site a visit and downloading the correct drivers for the machine:

What program did you open the file with to print it? (You can't just send a raw file to a printer and expect it to print)...

Go to Devices and Printers, right click on the printer icon and select Print Properties, look for a box that says "Print to File" and uncheck the check mark in the box. Apply and OK it.
When you print a document or file and the print dialog box comes up, before hitting OK, look to make sure that there is not a Print to File there also, uncheck it if necessary. After doing both of these, the problem should not reoccur again normally.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
