how do i install a sata and a ata drive in the same comp

Specs: Windows xp
how do i install a sata and ata drive both with xp in the same computer i took one out of an old computer and want to access the file on it from the new computer but it wont boot windows with both drives installed. The one in the new computer is sata the other is sata but i have to use an adapter to plug it into the ide cable any ideas would be great

Don't use the adapter.

If they are both SATA, you MUST have at least two SATA connectors on the motherboard, even if you need to temporarily unplug the DVD drive, just use the SATA port (most systems have 4 or more SATA ports).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
