how do I hook hard drive into network without having it connected directly to a computer. Can i put it through a router?

You have to hook it to a computer so it can be read. after that, you can designate it's use.

Yes, what you are asking about is a NAS or other type, AOE or ISCSI for enterprise but you can easily buy an enclosure for almost any common drive and connect to the lan/wan.

They also make them in wireless too.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

You can connect a hard drive to a net work if it is a NAS (network attached storage) device. The NAS is a limited function computer.
