February 11, 2011 at 05:35:34
Specs: Windows do
I am getting a WARNING: Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.
Press F1 to Continue message. The F1 key does not work. Pressing the F key does not work. What can I do to get past this message so I can back up my files and get a new computer.

I am very computer dumb so I need help that a dummy can understand.

If you're getting this message from the bios (white letters on a black background) your hard drive may already have crashed. Try booting up in Safe Mode. From a cold boot, keep tapping the F8 key and see if you can go into Safe Mode. If not, chances are the hard drive is toast. You don't need a new computer, you only need to buy a new drive. Post back with your system specs, make and model #.

I have a 2000 year model Sony PCV-RX260DS - operating system Windows XP. I have taken it now to a computer repair shop to see if they can retrieve any of my data.

Thanks for your help, but I was just too scared to try anything further for fear I would not be able to get a backup of my data.

And I forgot to add that it was a black screen with white lettering that had the warning message.
