how do i format a 1tb external drive?

Specs: Windows 7
I am getting ready to sell my 1TB Seagate external hard drive and want to be sure no one can read my files, even after I have removed them. I am running Windows 7, but need this drive to work with XP and Vista as well, as a selling point. Should I reformat? If so, how? If not, other suggestions?

Thank you!

You can reformat by right clicking on the drive in My Computer and then go to format. Then choose NTFS for the file system and click OK. This will erase all of the information and you will have a blank drive.
