How do I fix these sata drive issues?

Specs: Windows 7, AMD Phenom II x4 / 1GB 667 DDR2
Lately my sata drive has been having issues with booting. For the most part, it says "Read Error" or "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter". Sometimes it boots fine past this part, but when the gnome screen (im dual booting ubuntu and win 7) appears, Ubuntu boots as shell and Windows 7 boots as "Disk Read Error. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". The Sata drive is detected by the BIOS, and RAID is disabled. I'm pretty stumped. I've also tried booting into my IDE drive, but the Sata drive isn't recognized. As of right now, when I try to boot, it says "Read Error" after Boot from CD (no cd is in the drive) Any help is appreciated.

Download a harddrive diagnostic tool from the manufacturer. They usually run from a boot floppy or bootable CD. That will tell you whether your drive can be salvaged.

Can I run this from my IDE drive? I've burned about 10 cds so far trying to fix this computer.
Edit: I have UBCD burned, will that work?

Cannot hurt to try it. Just make sure you carefully select which tests to run as some will wipe a drive. I suggest since your IDE drive is OK that you disconnect it while running the tests on the SATA disk.
