how can unlock my ata hdd password?

Specs: Windows XP
my hard is locked by ata password
I didnt use any password but I dont know why its locked
can anyone help me?
I think that it needs some scripts for mhdd to create a dump file and from that file unlock it

If this is a laptop then you need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop and show proof of ownership.

There are a number of company's that offer a fix to your problem.
But the cost can be more than a new hd and no guarantee that any info on the disk can be saved.

I would suggest a look at Hirans boot cd....(free) as it has atapwd on it.
Still no guarantee of saving any info.

Your computer will need a cdrom drive.

If you never had a password on the hd....the problem may come about by a bad chip on the hd ...hmmmm

As OTheHill suggests, it is almost certainly a laptop hard disk that do come with password protection. They are impossible to remove as they key is stored in a chip on the motherboard.

It is to protect laptops that end up in the hands of someone other than there legal owner as very often happens.
