Solved How can I relabel a CDRW

Specs: Windows 10, Intel i3, 8gb
How do I relabel a CD/RW? I thought that if I went into properties and typed in a new name it would do the job. However it keeps coming up with Label Invalid although I am using only 11 digits (numbers and letters)

I recall some problems in the past with disk burning where the name had to be surprisingly short. What happens if you use a really short name, for example, 6 digits?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

It really depends on the initial burning of the disc. RW discs are burned typically as data discs that are able to be rewritten on. These discs can be rewritten and titled many times. You can try to copy you data to the desktop, format the disc then reburn it as a data disc. Cyberlink and Nero burning software will give you the option to choose what type of disc you need burned.

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.

You cannot rename a CDRW by changing the name in properties. Naming is done at the time of burning the disc

THX1138 is correct.

You can't change the name (label) of a CD-RW simply by using the same method that you use to change the name of a file or folder using the "Rename" option in Windows Explorer.

You change the name (label) of a CD-RW when burning fresh data to it using CD burning software.

Thank you. Seems like I have to copy to the hard drive, reformat the CD and recopy with a changed name.

Yes, you need to make sure the CD burning software is showing the name that you want before proceeding with the burn in future, then you won't need to burn it again from scratch just to change the name!
