You'll need some sort of external adapter. You didn't supply any info about the laptop or hard drive so it's impossible to explain what to get. But here's one possibility:

It's not a suggestion, it's an example. You supplied zero info about your laptop or hard drive. SATA? IDE? USB? eSATA? Firewire? etc? We have no idea what you have.

Get one of the adapters I am linking below. It can connect any IDE or SATA drive using USB. Has an AC power adapter and can even run optical drives of either type.
