I'm looking to take a regular house phone and hook it up to my PC's RJ-11 modem. I'd like to use my cordless telephone anywhere in my house and talk on the Internet. Can this be done?

Probably not. You could use a device like magic jack to connect the phone to the internet wired or wireless.

It can be done with the right equipment but not with a standard wired telephone by itself. To use a telephone over the Internet you need a telephone specifically designed for the purpose. It is called a VoIP phone - Voice over Internet Protocol.

Some broadband modems have a VoIP interface built in, some need a separate adaptor. You can get VoIP phones the plug connect via USB.

You will also need a VoIP telephone account as well which run in price from very cheap to free.

the fundamental problem is that regular phones with their 4-pin cords and RJ-11 jacks transmit ANALOG data. your PC's internet uses DIGITAL. VoIP phones use digital. Why is the phone being oldschool analog a requirement?
