My friends Dell crashed. It was using WinXP Pro. I reinstalled WinXP Pro but now the screen res can only be set to 600 x 800 plus the drivers for the sound are gone and nothing can be heard through the speakers. I also can't get on the internet because it doesn't recognize the driver for the Comcast modem anymore. Anyone have any solutions that might help? Thanks!

If the vidro card is integrated on the motherboard go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site and look for driver downloads. This is usually the safest bet because second party drivers are less specific. The motherboard model number should be on screen at the first of the boot up post or you can open up the case and look at the motherboard.

Explain what you mean by "crashed". Everyone seems to have a different definition. Do you mean it wouldn't boot into Windows? Or you were getting blue screen error messages? More than likely it was a simple fix but you opted to do a complete reinstall.

The XP disk only has a limited number of generic drivers, plus they're close to 10 yrs old. Go to the Dell site, enter the model info, then download what you need:

In addition to the above, you can also enter the service tag number off the case. This is helpful when the exact model isn't known. It also provides the most accurate information on what hardware was shipped with that particular Dell computer.

Download the drivers to a USB stick or other and apply to the computer with the problems.

If, by chance, the Dell site does not show any WinXP drivers available then post back here for further help.

I can't get on the internet because it's not recognizing the modem. I don't have the disc because Comcast installed the modem to the computer before Win XP Pro was reinstalled. When I reinstalled the Windows I had to do a complete installation and that's when it wasn't recognizing the drivers.

Well your on the Internet here so use the computer you are on, download the drivers to a flash drive, then put the flash drive on your other computer and install the drivers.
