How can i copy my internal hard drive?

Specs: Windows Vista
Nothing can be displayed on my monitor. Apparently I have a problem with my hard drive and the hard drive has to be replaced. Before I replace it, I want to copy all files into an external hard drive. How do I copy it when I cannot see anything on my monitor?

I did a diagnostic on my pc.It came up with an error message.DELL has confirmed that the error message relates to a hard drive problem & that it has to be replaced.

The hard drive needs to be removed and attached to a functioning computer to recover your data. There are free programs such as PC Files Inspector or Recuva that can assist should you have trouble simply copying the files over. A shop may be able to clone the drive if you have no software to reinstall on the new drive.
