hewlett-packard support HP black cartridge Not compatible

Specs: Windows Vista
The HP Gray Photo #100 works well, but my HP Photosmart 8450 using Vista shows "Black/Gray cartridge is not compatible" when I load HP Black #339, although this is recommended for text and coloured drawings

The HP #339 cartridge is definitely compatible with the Photosmart 8450 so maybe the one you bought is not a genuine HP cartridge perhaps?

Some ink cartridges have electrical contacts on them that are required for proper operation. If any ink gets on these contacts or the corresponding contact points on the printer, they will not read the ink correctly. Try cleaning both of these with a Q-Tip lightly dampened with a quality rubbing alcohol and drying (don't let it drip inside the machine). Repeat if needed with a clean Q-Tip BUT (important) make sure there is no lint remaining from the Q-Tip and all is dry before assembly.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Is the cartridge new or has it been refilled?

DAVEINCAPS - Made with REAL high fructose corn syrup.

I think it was a genuine buy; it should have been for the price I paid!

Bought 100% pure cotton tips and 500 ml surgical spirit B.P. and used as directed, but no joy! I don't fancy paying out another £27.00 for another cartridge! I could try to find someone locally that uses HP Black 339 in their printer. If it works in their machine, then I will know my machine is on the blink.

Definitely new! I called in at a local shop that does refills an questioned them about my problem. They said the refills are not rejected by HP machines but show low ink levels throughout.

Depending on where you purchased it and how recent, they may replace it or direct you to someone at HP for possible replacement. If you refer then to this link, HP might be more understanding than otherwise.

"but show low ink levels throughout"

New maybe but the above leads me to believe they are not genuine or have been refilled. The proper HP ones should show the ink levels quite normally.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
