Dell / C521

Specs: Windows XP, AMD ATHLON
I HAVE A DELL DIMENSION C521. RECENTLY I STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WHERE ON OCCASION THE IMAGE ON THE MONITOR WOULD SCRAMBLE. I COULD RESTART THE PC AND EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE. WHEN I TURNED THE PC ON THE OTHER DAY, I GOT NOTHING ON THE MONITOR. THE LIGHT ON THE POWER SWITCH STAYS AMBE WHICH, FROM WHAT I HAVE READ INDICATES A PRE-POST FAILURE. CORRECT? AM WONDERING IF THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. IF SO, WOULD SIMPLY ADDING A GRAPHICS CARD RESOLVE THE ISSUE? ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Don't type in all CAPS. It's the equivilent of SHOUTING & most consider it to be rude.

Other than that, when's the last time you opened the case & cleaned the dust out of it? It's possible that your graphics problem is caused by overheating.

Sorry about the caps, didn't mean to shout. As far as cleaning the pc, never. It's about 2 years old and I have never opened it. I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks

Used a can of compressed air. Do not use a vacuum cleaner.

FWIW to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to NTVDM.EXE, the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.
