Specs: Windows XP
my computer wont read dvds. It lights up when I put one in but it does nothing. I tried a solution I found on the internet. this had you delete upper or lower filters. There are no filters that I could find going through the registry.

Did the drive ever read DVDs? What type of DVD disk are you having problems with, or is it with all types. I am referring to factory DVDs, DVDR +-, DVDRW+-, Dual layer, etc.?

yes it worked fine until recently. will not read anything. I cant backup either. I just downloaded drivers and it still doesn't work. It lights up on the front of the dvd compartment and that is all it does.

Have you recently installed or removed any burning programs or scanner software?

If this condition hasn't existed for very long maybe you could perform a system restore back to a date before the problem.
