Specs: Windows XP pro 64 bit, 3.4 /4.0
even if i have a 64 bit operating system i thought the 32 bit system can hold 4 gb you think 64 bit is the same?

Stick to your original thread.
The 4gb limit you face is nothing to do with 32bit or 64bit operating system.
It is a hardware limit of the motherboard in your gx620

Regardless of your operating system, Dell specs for that model show a maximum ram limit of 4gb. If you put more than the limit at the very least it will fail to boot.
Worst case you fry the ram or motherboard.

WIndows 7 does have artificial limits placed on RAM. Per this MSDN article, you're limited to between 2GB and 192GB of RAM, depending on your version.

And just to stir up the bee hive, the 4GB limit on 32-bit version of WIndows is an artificial limit as well.
