Help bringing down the temp. on my 8800GT

Geforce xfx / 8800gt
September 8, 2010 at 14:34:22
Specs: Windows XP, Core2Duo 3.0 / 4GB
So, it's the Alpha Dog Edition, and it idles at 58, and goes up to about 90 on heavy loads (most new games).
These are the things I plan on buying:

Good combo? Anything better for the same money?

Did someone tell you that 58 idle/90 load is excessively high? Are you having temp related problems?

You realize that all those parts combined are more than your card is worth?

It's a used card! And it's a rapidly aging used card. nVidia has already run thru the 9000 series & is into a completely new numbering system. I'm by no means saying the 8800GT is a bad card, but a $40 GT240 w/DDR5 will give it a run for it's money, plus it runs a LOT cooler. Rather than investing more money in an "old" card, sell it for what you can get & invest in a modern card.

Have a look at this comparison & notice the 3D load temps about 1/2 down the page - you'll see that your 90C isn't all that far off the mark:
