Specs: Windows xp
I got a dell inspiron mini 1010 from a guy but he gave me his laptop with passwords on it. I got the bios password but now i have to enter the hdd password and i don't have it! Is there anyway to bypass this problem? Can I replace the hdd and be able to bypass that password at startup?

Contact Dell for that information.

Really nice to see people so giving. I wish someone gave me a laptop.

the dude was a stock broker, he hit big and went to tour the world so he had no reason to keep the laptop. But i don't want to contact dell.

I would imagine you don't. As soon as you give them the serial number, you're busted.

Replacing the hard drive may not even solve the problem. There may be a chip on the motherboard.

That is what you get for buying stolen merchandise.

BTW, that is not a laptop. It is a Netbook.

Then contact the manufacturer. If you knew it was a netbook why call it a laptop?

You don't think it's worth contacting Dell to get your computer working again? A more suspicious person than I might wonder why.

Follow the example of your friend; be generous and give it to someone who has the time to spare to call Dell. You will lose a non-working computer, but you will make a friend for life.

A sharp stock broker ought to be able to remember the password I'd think. But I don't know.
